Accessibility Statement

Our commitment

Backyard Bougie, Inc., doing business as Vachel Heritage Egg Co., wants everyone to be able to read about our eggs, join the waitlist, and — once orders open — buy from us, whatever tools they use to browse the web. Our target for vachelfarms.com is conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA.

What we have done

• Every page has a logical heading structure, named landmarks (banner, navigation, main content, footer), and a "skip to content" link for keyboard users.
• All images that carry meaning have descriptive alternative text; decorative images are hidden from assistive technology.
• Every form field has a visible label. Errors and the confirmation message are announced to screen readers, and the anti-spam checks never require you to solve a puzzle or read distorted text.
• Text colours meet the 4.5:1 contrast ratio for body text and 3:1 for large text and controls, on both the dark and cream backgrounds.
• Every interactive element shows a visible focus outline, and the announcement banner's close button and the pop-up's close button are at least 24 by 24 pixels.
• The lab-testing pop-up is a proper dialog: focus moves into it when it opens and back where it was when it closes, the Escape key and the backdrop both close it, and nothing in it exists only there — the same information is in the page under "The Lab".
• Animation is turned off for visitors whose system is set to reduce motion.
• The site works at a 320-pixel viewport width without horizontal scrolling and supports browser zoom to 200%.

How we tested

On September 7, 2026 we ran automated checks with axe-core 4.12.1 against the WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 A and AA rule sets on every page of the site, and fixed every violation it reported. We also tested the home page, including the pop-up and the waitlist form, with a keyboard alone in Chrome, at 1280 and 390 pixels wide.

Known limitations

• Screen-reader testing is not yet complete. We have not yet done a full pass with VoiceOver or NVDA. Automated tools catch only a portion of accessibility problems, so we are not claiming full conformance until that testing is done.
• Web fonts. Our typefaces load from Google Fonts. If they fail to load, the site falls back to your system's serif and sans-serif fonts; nothing is lost, but the page will look different.
• The lab report. When the laboratory's report is published it will arrive as the lab's own document, most likely a PDF. We will publish an accessible HTML summary of the results alongside it.

Technical notes

This site is hand-written HTML, CSS and a small amount of JavaScript. It relies on no front-end framework, sets no cookies, and loads no analytics or advertising scripts. The waitlist form works with JavaScript enabled; if it fails to send, an error message tells you and gives you our email address instead.
